David Tress

Born London,1955. Has lived and worked in Pembrokeshire since 1976. Studied at Harrow College of Art and Trent Polytechnic,Nottingham. Elected to RCA 1992. “My paintings are projections of ideas through the vehicle of landscape”. David Tress’ works are characterised by resonant colours,a bold yet sensitive handling of his media, and a freedom of interpretation which is the legacy of an earlier involvement with abstraction and performance art. In his paintings, the immutable features of landscape are transformed by an array of intangible elements – wind, solitude, thunder, the sound of the sea – and, above all, they have a scale and power which dwarfs the minutiae of daily life.

Nodweddir gwaith David Tress gan liwiau croyw,y ffordd eofn ond sensitif y mae’n defnyddio’i gyfryngau,a’i ddehongliadau dilyffethair sy’n deillio o’i ymwneud cynharach â haniaeth a chelfyddyd perfformio. Yn ei beintiadau caiff nodweddion digyfnewid y tirwedd eu trawsffurfio gan lu o elfennau anniriaethol – gwynt, unigedd, taranu,sˆwn y môr – ac, uwchlaw popeth, maent mor eang a grymus nes gwneud i holl fanion bywyd bob dydd edrych yn bitw bach.
