ELECTED IN 2013
Elaine Preece Stanley is a Liverpool-based painter working primarily in oil and a self-developed egg tempera medium. A graduate of Liverpool Hope University, her practice explores memory, perception, atmosphere, and place through landscapes, portraits, and process-led abstraction.
Influenced by the shifting environments of Merseyside and North Wales, Stanley’s paintings are shaped by gesture, musicality, and the experience of partial sight following a diagnosis of Retinitis Pigmentosa in 2017. Her work often moves between observation and recollection, seeking not to record “the facts” of a scene, but to evoke a felt sense of presence, fragility, and emotional resonance.
Stanley has exhibited widely, including at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, ING Discerning Eye, Sotheby’s, and with Outside In at Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
