“To paint is to escape — painting is my passion, my grief and my joy. It’s a way to remember … and a way to forget.”

I take much of my inspiration from the magnificence of the sea surrounding my home on Ynys Môn and the majestic landscape of Eryri.

There are several aspects to the inspiration for my current work:

  • the emotion and grief I have felt since the death of my son in 2019.
  • the power, dynamism, and relentless energy of the sea
  • the permanence, the colours, and the heritage of the Welsh slate and copper industries.

I work on location as often as possible. By observing and feeling my surroundings, I am able to paint an emotional response that expresses my personal experiences in such a way that they remain ambiguous, leaving the viewer to add their own narrative.

I paint primarily in oils, but I also use mixed media to give me the flexibility I need.

I studied art at the Norfolk Painting School and graduated in 2016 with a Diploma in Oil Painting.
