Nichola Hope is an artist of Welsh and Irish nationality based in South Wales. She studied painting at Winchester School of Art and Cardiff School of Art. In 2022, she joined the postgraduate drawing year with Royal Drawing School, London. In 2006, she began drawing performances at Welsh National Opera alongside Sarah Hope. She continues to draw different genres of performance. A selection of her performance based drawings were exhibited alongside artist Sarah Hope at the Pierhead Building, Senedd in 2023.
She made a series of drawings from the taxidermy collection of Museum Wales Cardiff in 2019. Her drawings of wildlife have been selected for Wildlife Artist of the year exhibitions and she was awarded the watercolour prize in Wildlife Artist of the Year 2020. The Orthopaedic ward, Llandough Hospital have her drawings of birds on permanent display.
Drawing is at the centre of her practice. She is inspired by imagination, the human condition and our relationship with the animal world. Her work has been selected for touring exhibitions including Wales Contemporary 2022. She has recently exhibited work with Royal Drawing school alumni.
