Children's Summer Art school 2023

We will be exploring drawing, cyanotype printing, 3D model building, painting, felting and ceramic.

Classes are suitable for 7-12 year old children.

3D vehicle building with Mike Murray

You’ll be encouraged into thinking up the craziest of vehicle ideas and then develop their design into small toy versions of them. The workshop is a fusion of engineering and art. Participants will creatively be using colour and form onto their own vehicle designs. Inspiration will be sought from the kids tv series “Wacky Races”.

Make your own Textured Vase with Emily Hughes

In this workshop you will express creativity through the medium of clay. You will learn how to make unique patterns and textures in clay using a variety of tools both natural and man-made and explore simple hand building techniques to make a textured vase.

The clay used will be air drying so no firing is needed. Simply leave the work in a warm dry spot and the pieces should be fully dry within 24- 48 hours.

Cyanotype photographic printing with Mary Thomas

You will experiment with camera-less photography, cyanotypes and lumen processes in this exciting workshop that uses Sun power/UV to create your own photographs using items from nature and negatives. You’ll be using a process that was discovered in 1842, one of the first forms of photography.

Drawing and Felting with Jo-Anna Duncalf

Morning session: You’ll learn how to use experimental drawing, explore continuous line and learn about monoprints.

Afternoon session: You’ll build up layers of felt to form abstract patterns, exploring colour and texture.

Learn Perspective Drawing with Claire Halliday

We’ll learn how to use single point perspective as well as 2point and explore the use of light and dark on mid toned paper to make the scene more 3D. The participants will learn useful skills that they will be able to use for future drawings.

Introduction to Acrylic Painting with Jo-Anna Duncalf

You’ll learn how to paint your own artwork, using acrylic paints on board, focussing on objects and still life in the morning and landscape in the afternoon and using sandpaper to create effects.
