I work quite slowly building up the drawing from a rough outline in pencil, then using crayons I introduce the colour over which I draw more carefully and in detail with pen and Indian ink.

I was very lucky to have lived in one of the most beautiful parts of the Upper Wye Valley, where most of the pictures in the exhibition were made. The hillsides were hung with ancient woods and lined with sheep tracks. I used to walk with my dogs constantly in this ancient landscape and came to love it in all its different moods and seasons. From the heights above the valley I could see the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons which formed a constant backdrop to my walks and to my drawings. I have now moved over the border but will never lose my deep attachment to that particular part of Wales.
My work is mostly concerned with the animals which are so much part of our national heritage and hopefully celebrates the truly rich and wonderful variety of breeds we have in this country.
