Based in Trearddur Bay on Anglesey, Andy Dobbie has been a full-time professional artist since 2017.
“I produce industrialised interpretations of the human figure using a Modernist-inspired aesthetic.
‘Form’ fascinates me: how light strikes the planes of a form, casts shadows and creates negative shapes, and how movement around the form changes our perception of these. I am also intrigued by how we use peripheral vision and memory to understand forms and build up amental picture of ‘what’ things are and ‘where’ they are.
The human figure is my primary motif as it offers the perfect ‘armature’ for my experiments because it can cope with simplification and distortion without becoming totally unrecognisable.
