Nesta Eluned was born and lives in the hills of Eryri (Snowdonia). She attended Liverpool Art College in the early 1970s and worked as a graphic designer for many years. Working life took her away from art but now retired she has been able to fulfil a long held desire to be a full time artist.
Her painting practice starts with plein-air sessions in preparation for studio work embracing an extensive range of materials and techniques. The work fuses classical landscape compositions with abstract expression producing evocative paintings of dynamic energetic mark making with layers of paint added and subtracted. Paintings emerge sometimes of a specific place sometimes not, but they are inspired by a certain place.
The
aim is to express the wildness and uncompromising environment of Eryri
whilst conveying the deep connection to the landscape that she has. The
landscape provides the source of her inspiration and motivation and she
aims to express, through her paintings, the feeling she has of being
rooted to this land.
