PHILIPPA JACOBS

ELECTED IN 2013

Philippa Jacobs attended the Royal College of Art, London. Her main contemporary influences were the Polish painter, Kratochwil and British painter Dame Ethel Walker. She was also inspired by Early Italian Renaissance, El Greco and Goya, French 19th century painting, Fauvism and Expressionism.

"For me a painting is pointless unless the idea drives the technique, therefore the painter must have something to say. In recent years I have tried to move towards a more contemporary art form and not to keep repeating myself. Poetry has helped me think beyond atmospheric reality to more imaginative concepts. Regrettably, I have never been able to develop a consistent recognisable style, though at the same time have not stood still with just one style or subject. I believe that all subject matter stems from understanding the significance of Birth, Life and Death."
