1828-1905
One of the 'first thirty one' founder members of the RCA. Born in Hamble, Hampshire. He was living in London and then Chester in the 1850's, in Liverpool in the early 1880's and then moved to Wales following his marriage to Annie Edgar in 1883. A few sources state his date of birth as 1883. He exhibited 128 works at the Royal Academy. He produced a number of oil paintings, but the majority of his work was in watercolour. Many of his works featured rural farming scenes and landscapes, however he was known to have painted several portraits and studies of people. he signed his work A. W. Ayling, but rarely attributed a date and some were without a title.
