ELECTED IN 2000
Born in Liverpool, Dianne Lawrenson spend most of her childhood in North Wales. "My father was a civil engineer, who had to visit projects around North Wales. I travelled with him on many occasions. Seeing through my child eyes beautiful, powerful, to me inaccessible landscapes. This left a deep impression on me.
When I reached my teens the family moved to the outskirts of Haworth, West Yorkshire, I was comfortable in its vast moorlands and rugged landscape. Today I live in Cumbria amid it's multi faceted landscape, Finding inspiration at every turn with echoes of my Welsh past. Tough, challenging landscapes inspire powerful responses.
work is figurative set against mountains, cliffs, crags, outcrops,
rocky seashores, quarries ,whose exposed face can reveal our
petrified history. Set
against these backgrounds men and women evolved, tough, vital
with their landscape which formed (SCULPTED) them."
