In my paintings, I usually quarry a moment or a resurrected event, happening or sight that has moved me in some way. I use pencil on paper to translate suchlike into images.
Paintings proceed in a to and fro way, becoming and canceling, progressing only when they correspond to the pursued sensation and have something of the feel I am attempting to describe. In a sense, I am governed by sensation through painting.
In turn, I am enthralled by paintings, I love to look at them and to receive them. It is their very stillness that speaks to me. I love what Kenneth Clarke called “the ecstatic energy "of an artwork. In this way I am constantly refreshed by what I see and able to reflect on the many ways the world is seen. This both inspires and delights me.
