ELECTED IN 2019
"I often paint whilst sitting in the landscape, if it rains the canvas gets wet and the rain becomes part of the painting’s history, the effects of theweather, the sounds and the atmosphere of a place often influence mywork as much as the visual aspect.
I use my sketchbook as a tool for working out ideas, making visualresearch notes, sorting out detail, solving problems, and investigating andtesting painting techniques. I have a collection of sketchbooks which are invaluable - no one sketchbook relates to any one area or period; they all form my artistic research backbone. I continue using a sketchbook I might have started using 10 years ago, always pushing something a little bitfurther… seeing what happens, it’s exciting!
Sometimes my work has an aerial perspective, I put this down to myhistory of rock climbing over many years, especially in North Wales.Water, rocks and trees are my favourite subjects. Painting for me is a pathof discovery and each painting is part of my journey."
