A Brush With Reality: Simon Goss’s Solo Exhibition at Queen Street Gallery
Simon Goss, elected as an Associate Member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 2023, has spent over four decades honing his skills in graphite, watercolour, pastels, and coloured pencils. His artistic journey began during his Foundation course at Dyfed College of Art in 1982 and later expanded through technical illustration and graphic design. For the past 25 years, Goss has also run SIGGA Design, a graphic design company serving notable clients, including The Scarlets and Swansea Building Society.
Throughout his career, Goss has run or attended life drawing sessions, an essential part of his practice that informs his portraiture and figurative works. In recent years, he has explored new methods, including creating portraits through digital technology during the Covid-19 lockdown. This innovative approach, using Zoom to capture unguarded moments of his subjects, resulted in a stunning set of portraits, one of which was selected for the Royal Society of Portrait Painters’ annual exhibition in London in 2021.
“A Brush With Reality” will offer a glimpse into Goss’s evolving style, including his portraiture series created in this unique, digital-inspired format. The exhibition will run alongside the Royal Cambrian Academy’s 2025 Open Exhibition, providing an exciting opportunity for visitors to explore the work of this highly skilled Welsh artist in the heart of North Wales.
