    Elected in 1990

Malcolm Brookes trained at Birmingham College of Art and Crafts 1959 – 64. He was Head of Art Departments at three Midland Schools from 1964 to 1997, and is a member of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists.

“My subject matter is varied but I am essentially a figurative painter who is always conscious of underlying abstract principles of composition. I sometimes allow abstraction to come to the fore though always starting from observation. My main media are oils, gouache and pastels. Recently I have been filling brown paper sketch books with black and white pen drawings (finished drawings rather than sketches). I take pride in being unpredictable and allow the qualities I enjoy in a particular subject to dictate the medium and style rather than imposing a regular formula.”
