John Hedley’s work is deeply connected to nature, with paintings created on wood sourced from windfalls at Bodnant Gardens, Ynys Môn, and Crete. His pieces, using oil and metal relief, embody the organic growth of trees, blending symbolic and abstract elements. Trained at the renowned Camberwell School of Art and other prestigious institutions, Hedley’s artistic journey spans decades of both practice and teaching in North Wales, where his mastery of Byzantine Icon techniques has further influenced his layered, textured works.

Andrew Smith’s abstract paintings are a bold exploration of colour in response to location. Inspired by recent residencies in China and Morocco, Smith’s latest series reflects the vibrancy of these places, created at his studio in Harlech. A frequent participant in international art exchanges and public art projects, Smith’s work has been exhibited worldwide, and his ongoing exploration of cultural and geographical influences keeps his practice ever-evolving.

This exhibition not only shines a light on the artists' creative journeys but also underscores the wealth of talent within the Royal Cambrian Academy. As RCA members, both John and Andrew continue to represent the Academy’s rich tradition of supporting and showcasing the finest artistic talent in Wales.
