The Royal Cambrian Academy of Art is excited to announce the panel of judges for our highly anticipated Open Exhibition 2025. This year, we are proud to bring together four esteemed individuals from the Welsh art community, each with a distinguished career in fine art and a deep connection to Wales.

Ann Lewis VPRCA
Ann Lewis is a prominent figure in Welsh fine art and a celebrated printmaker. She studied at Bangor Art College and Exeter College of Art and Design, earning a degree in Graphic Design before transitioning to fine art. Ann became a member of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1993 and has served as both President and Vice President. She is known for her intricate linocut prints, often depicting the beautiful landscapes of North Wales. Her work is held in prestigious collections, including the National Library of Wales and the Government Art Collection.

Jeremy Yates RCA
Jeremy Yates is a renowned Welsh artist with a career spanning several decades. He was President of the Royal Cambrian Academy from 2014 to 2020 and recently retired from his role as Vice President. Yates studied fine art at leading art colleges in England and has taught at various institutions in Wales, including the University of Bangor. His work, which often draws inspiration from the Welsh landscape and history, spans a range of media, including oil painting, acrylic, watercolor, and etching. His evocative landscapes and figure paintings have earned him recognition in art galleries across Wales and beyond.

Meinir Mathias ARCA
Based in Ceredigion, Meinir Mathias is a talented Welsh artist known for her oil paintings and intaglio printmaking. She explores themes of identity, history, and the connection between people and the land. After completing both undergraduate and postgraduate studies in Fine Art, she taught at Carmarthen School of Art before focusing on her full-time art practice. Meinir has exhibited her work in galleries across Wales and London, and she recently represented Wales at the Inter-celtique exhibition in Lorient, France. This year, she won the prestigious Ivor Davies Award at the Lle Celf at the National Eisteddfod. Her work is also part of the National Library of Wales collection, further cementing her role in the Welsh art scene.

Anders Pleass
Anders Pleass is an experienced curator, having served as Head of Exhibitions at Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno, one of North Wales' leading art galleries, from 2001 to 2012. His curatorial expertise includes working on prominent exhibitions such as 'David Nash: Red, Black, Other' and 'Painting by Other Means.' Anders has also contributed to the 'Open Frequency' project and has lectured at various Welsh institutions, including Coleg Menai and North Wales College of Art and Design. His depth of experience in fine art curation adds a valuable perspective to this year's panel of judges.

We are thrilled to have such a talented and experienced panel of judges for the Royal Cambrian Academy's Open Exhibition 2025. Their collective expertise in fine art will ensure that the exhibition showcases the best of contemporary Welsh and UK art. We invite all artists, from emerging to established, to submit their work for consideration. With the opportunity to exhibit in one of North Wales' most respected art galleries and compete for the £1000 Selectors Prize, this is an exciting chance for artists to gain recognition.
